The diesel roster of the AD&N was a small, but interesting one. There weren't too many changes over the years. It's interesting to note though, that some of the units were switched back and forth between other Georgia Pacific railroads. In fact, units from the Ashley, Drew & Northern RR, Arkansas, Louisiana & Mississippi RR and Fordyce & Princeton RR, were all maintained together at the Crossett Diesel Shop, and were run as a pool on any one of those railroads. The steam engines used just prior to diesels were Baldwin 2-6-0's and 2-8-0's, and were numbered 105, 125, 130 and 135. The original parent company for the AD&N, Crossett Lumber, used Shays. The AD&N became "dieselized" in 1948 with the purchase of four GE 70 Ton units, and later switched to EMD units. The AD&N adopted a new numbering system in 1978 which corresponded to the horsepower for a given unit, (shown in the first digit/s) and the time of acquisition (shown in the second digit/s). For instance, #1205 was a 1200 horsepower unit, and was the 5th unit acquired. Many of the AD&N units are now working for other railroads in the Georgia Pacific family. Below is a table of info for each AD&N unit that I have learned about from various articles.
