6178 EJ&E 547 2-74
EJ&E 547 was the caboose on this ore train, which probably didn't look much like an ore train from the caboose. While the addition of the extra freight may have made the load of trains #5 or #9 lighter, this was not a classic case of combining 2 trains. If the trains were combined, then extra power would have been provided for the return leg of #5 or #9 (which would have become #6 or #10)as well as a second caboose for the rear end crew of the same train. Note that the ore cars are dipping through the Upton plant, while in the far distance, the head end is about to pass beneath the Green Bay Road (IL Route 131) overpass in Lake Bluff, IL. This all happened in February, 1974.
