|
| Model: N
Scale SD9 #608 Front View |
| Notes: This is my model of SD9 #608, done using a Life Like SD7. I
tried to stay as close to the prototype
as I could. Details from Sunrise are a winter
hatch, nose bell, firecracker antenna, and
red strobe. |
|
|
| Model: N
Scale SD9 #608 Back View |
| Notes: ModelFlex Reefer
Orange, ATSF Silver, and DMIR Yellow paint
were used. Decals were from the MicroScale
EJ&E loco sheet. |
|
|
|
| Model: N
Scale SW1200 #307 Front View |
| Notes: My 'brown scheme'
switcher was done using a LifeLike SW1200
model. Paint used was ModelFlex Rail Brown,
DMIR Yellow and ATSF Silver. |
|
|
| Model: N
Scale SW1200 #307 Back View |
| Notes: Details from Sunrise
were a 'weed cutter' plow, firecracker antenna,
and red strobe. Decals were from the MicroScale
EJ&E loco sheet. |
|
|
|
| Model: N
Scale EJ&E Caboose |
| Notes: This cab is by
no means accurate, but it's better than
nothing. The model was an Atlas caboose.
I added clear styrene on the inside for
window glass. Paint used was ModelFlex Reefer
Orange, DMIR Yellow, and some sort of gray
on the trucks. A combination of decals from
both the MicroScale J freight car set and
J loco set were used. For some unknown reason,
I used #630. I have no idea why. The whole
thing was given a flat clear coat. |
|
|
|
| Model: N
Scale SW1200 #305 Front View |
| Notes: My 'green scheme'
switcher was done using a LifeLike SW1200
model. Paint used was ModelFlex CNW
Green, with drops of Erie Yellow
mixed in until I got the right shade. ATSF
Silver was used on the trucks and tank.
DMIR Yellow was used on the handrails and
sills. Yellow logo decals were made for
me by Tim Diez on his ALPS printer. |
|
|
|
| Model: N
Scale SW1200 #301 Front View |
| Notes: #301 was built
in the same manor as #305 above. Both units
had Sunrise 'weed cutter' plows, firecracker
antennas, and red strobes added. Decals
came from the MicroScale loco sheet. I originally
tried using a custom photo-etch handrail
set so I could do one of the units that
have full length handrails, but both sets
I had fell apart after installed. |

striping from Hanger 9. The logo was derived
from a letterhead image. |

|
| Model: N
Scale 40' AAR Green wMap Logo Boxcar |
| Maker: Kadee/Micro Trains |
| Notes: Micro Trains sold
this special 5 pack at the 97' Chicago Convention.
MT did make single copies of this car though.
The single car was released as #60419 in
11/81, which was then Kadee. I have one
of those cars. I'm told that the road numbers
on these cars are incorrect though. Believe
it or not, this is apparently the only EJ&E
car MT has done so far. |

EJ&E is. I gave them MT trucks, and
this one got a resin scrap load, painted
with rust and weathered. |

"I personally prefer the lighter ModelFlex Reefer Orange for
road power. Some people prefer a darker BNSF type Orange. I've used
ModelFlex Rail Brown for the brown switcher color, and a mixture
of CNW Green and Erie Yellow to make the green switcher color. I
added drops of yellow to the green and did tests until I liked it.
DMIR Yellow works for handrails, and ATSF Silver for the 'pre-stripe
scheme' tanks and trucks. I've found that colors will usually look
darker on models then the real thing. This is mostly due to lack
of light". |
| Century628 - "I've
gotten good results with Floquil Reefer Orange, with a speck of
red to deepen it". |
| Kam Miller - "For
brown I use Floquil Rail Brown. For Orange, I use Reefer Orange
with a few drops of Reefer White to tone it down a little. For the
early Green I use Floquil Light Green". |

- "I have done several road units... Airbrush base coat Floquil
Reefer Orange, with a light coat of Krylon Popsicle safety orange.
A light mist overcoat will slightly darken the Reefer Orange and
provide a gloss surface for decals. Or: 7 to 1 ratio of Reefer Orange
and Reefer Yellow, mix and apply using airbrush, let dry overnight
and apply high gloss, decal, then apply satin or dull coat. The
older units would be the 7 to 1 ratio, where as the new units with
the white stripes tend to have more of a darker orange. My favorite
for this is Reefer Orange and Krylon Orange". |
