Plant - Cleanup Car Siding |
| Location: West Chicago, IL |
| Date: 9/19/2000 |
| Notes: Shot during a hazardous
material cleanup project to remove radio active
waste soil that was left on the property. A siding
was built to hold specially outfitted cars that
were used to transport the tainted soil. The soil
was taken to a dump site in Utah where it was
treated and disposed of. You can see the motorized
unit that was used to move the cars in and out
of the loader. |

pipes that worked the switches from the tower.
The track nearest the tower is the J main. The
other track is the former eastbound main when

The track on the far right, running by the pile
of coke goes to 'N' Yard, and the North or South
side of the coke batteries. Many years ago this
track would have also gone to the Tube Mill, long
since gone. The yard engine takes 30 cars of coal,
and sets them into the dumper. There are retarders
in the dumper to hold the cars and control them
as they're dumped one at a time. |
